HP has been developing and implementing strategies to be a leader in the advancement of women in the technology business. The programmes seem to be successful, as approximately a third of their global executives are women and they are looking to increase their numbers at all levels of the organisation.
According to a report by the European Commission, 29 per cent of those employed as researchers are women. In the business and enterprise sector, the number is a dismal 18 per cent. Moreover, women are more likely to work in firms with lower R&D expenditures.
