Total is glad to help

Total is now providing assistance at its gas stations to customers with mobility restrictions. At over 1000 gas stations, signs are available with a number for telephone assistance for all customers requiring assistance. The initiative, with the slogan “We’re glad to help” is available throughout Germany. Karin Evers Meyer, representative of the German Federal Government for the interests of handicapped, presented the first sign and stated, “Mobility is sharing. Those who have reduced mobility appreciate quick and uncomplicated assistance.” The new initiative emphasizes the firm’s commitment to the handicapped community. The company also recently cooperated with the Annedore-Leber-Berufsbildungswerk vocational school in Berlin to assist physically- and mentally-handicapped youth with to on-the-job training. The need for similar programs and cooperations is growing as the risk of unemployment for the severely handicapped is much greater than that of other subpopulations. The German government acknowledged the need for special working programs for the severely disabled in a special report on the current job market where they stated that the activity rate of the severely disabled is 42%, which is 30 % lower than that of the total population.
