“Living with our and others’ religions, together in diversity”

Ten students from Moerser Secondary School at Jungbornpark will be flying this June to Turkey. This is not a class vacation, but is an opportunity for these students to work together on the international project, “”Living with our and others’ religions, together in diversity”. This large school project allows students the chance to be introduced and understand new and unfamiliar world religions. Further knowledge and understanding of each other’s religions cultivates a more peaceful and understanding of life with one another. Students from various countries (Sweden, Lithuania, Austria, Turkey, Poland, England, Slovenia and Germany) have worked together on this project since the beginning of this school year.
The students explore, for example, the meaning of religion in their school, city and country. They conduct interviews and develop questions to discover what role religion plays for people in their environments. Along with this, they work together to build a model house of worship in which the three largest monotheistic religions of Europe – Christianity, Judaism, and Islam – unite. The final model will be presented at their 2010 graduation ceremony.
Until then, there is plenty to learn and discover at school and at the next student exchange workshop in Turkey in June 2009. Ten German students from Moerser Secondary School along with a number of students from other countries will travel to Turkey for five days and stay with guest families in order to work on the project together.
