Google manages Work and Life
Knowing that Work/Life balance is a struggle for many workers, Google has striven to create a working environment that is not only flexible, but also diverse, inclusive and collaborative. One such way the company helps accommodate the time spent at work to the chores that await outside of work is by providing a number of on-site services that would normally consume out-of-office time. For example, car washes, doctors, and dry-cleaning help are available in a number of locations.
For new parents, Google offers a competitive maternity and/or paternity leave and will pay for takeout meals for the first few weeks after the birth of the new child. Nikesh Arora, President of EMEA Operations, stated, “Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to Google’s way of doing things. We strive to be a local company in every country that we operate and we understand that our users all have different cultures, languages and traditions. It drives the projects we work on, the people we hire and the goals we set for ourselves. We go to great lengths to create products that are useful to our user wherever they are and we’ve found that this commitment to diversity and to our users has been key to our success.”
