Fourth Brussels Debate: The Business Case for Intercultural Dialogue in the workplace
The fourth Brussels Debate was held on June, 4 in the framework of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The title of the debate was “Couscous Culture: is that what Intercultural Dialogue in the workplace is all about?”. The discussion and following comments by participants generally emphasised the fact that the promotion of Diversity in the workplace can lead to positive economic and social advantages. The event focused on the challenges and opportunities an international work force and environment can offer to all stakeholders – if adequately managed. Several representatives from the corporate world, politics and NGOs held keynote speeches on cultural Diversity and equality at the workplace; among the keynote speakers were Vladimír Špidla – European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Benoît van Grieken – Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of Randstad Belgium, and Chibo Onyeji – Vice-President of the European Network Against Racism. The series of Brussels Debates are one of the core activities of the European Year that take place at European level. Four Debates have already been held this year.
