A Spectacular Showing in Beijing: Paralympics 2008
Although the Olympic games in Beijing ended almost a month ago, the Paralympics drew to a close just last week with great success. With almost 4000 athletics from 150 different countries, the Paralympics were a show of astounding athletic abilities and attracted millions of viewers. Between the 6th and 17th of September, 472 gold medals were awarded to the best of competitors. With 171 athletes, Germany had the largest representation of athletes, 22 of whom went home with medals, including 4 gold. Competing athletes are listed according to six different disability groups in the Paralympic Movement: amputee, cerebral palsy, visual impairment, spinal cord injuries, intellectual disability and a group which includes all those who do not fit into the aforementioned groups.
