European Women’s Lobby’s provides Resource Kit

The European Women’s Lobby’s (EWL) prepared a resource kit that presents information about existing public institutions dealing with equality between women and men at international, European and national level. It aims at supporting NGOs and other interested stakeholders to evaluate and influence international and European institutions as well as their national governments. Furthermore the resource kit intends to enable them to strengthen weak or inefficient institutional mechanisms dealing with women’s rights and gender equality.
Institutional mechanisms for equality between women and men are state bodies or institutions, which work on the promotion of women’s rights and equality between women and men. Some European countries established institutional mechanisms for the advancement of women as early as the 1960s; however it was until the 1970s that these mechanisms became visible at the national and international level. The content of the resource kit is dived into three sections: 1. Commitments made in favour of creating institutions dealing with equality between women and men, 2. Institutional mechanisms for equality between women and men at international and European level and in EU member States and 3. Assessing the efficiency of a country’s institutional mechanisms.
