The Grass Is Greener in Ireland

Fifteen Irish organisations are listed among the top 100 best places to work in Europe and two of
them are in the top 10. The list was compiled by the British-based Great Place to Work Institute.
Given the size of Ireland’s working population the country has five times as many companies listed
in the top 100 as would be expected. Britain has the same number of companies on the list despite
having 15 times Ireland’s working population while Germany has 18 places. One of the Irish
organisations is Temple Street Children’s Hospital. This is the first time that a public hospital has
been included in either the EU or US lists. Two Irish companies, DePuy and O2 Ireland, are among
the top 10 on the list while Google Ireland won a special award for best practice in creating a fun
place to work. O2 got the best overall company award in the Irish list. Best Practices for Internal
Communication went to Brightwater; Best Practices for Work-Life Balance to Intel Ireland; Best
Practices for Diversity Management to Abbott Laboratories Ireland Ltd; Best Practice for employee
involvement in Corporate Social Responsibility to GE Commercial Aviation Services.
